Ventaglio

Ventaglio

Toscana IGT

One and a half hectares of Cabernet Franc form a gracious concentric dance around a majestic holm oak. Its calcareous soils are an essential contributory element to the complexity, structure, and elegance of the wines that embody this small viticultural gem.

Heavy rainfall in May and June (178mm) hindered anti-fungal treatments just at the delicate moment of cluster development, but providential sea breezes and vineyard aspect significantly contributed to protecting the crop. Summer was dry, as expected, although temperatures averaged slightly lower than in recent seasons; they reached their highest in the first week in August. Veraison was somewhat slower than usual, particular in varieties such as Cabernet Franc. The heavy rains in spring ensured lengthy, gradual ripening, and a sunny, dry September brought optimal ripeness to each micro-zone by the time harvest arrived.

2018 Harvest Notes

The two differently-aspected parcels of the Ventaglio vineyard were harvested exactly one week apart. The southern section was picked on 6 September and the north-facing parcel on 13 September, both at ideal ripeness.

The Ventaglio vineyard wraps around a small, woods-protected ridge at 120 metres’ elevation, just two kilometres from the sea. The red, sandy soils of the coast yield here to clay and limestone, which compose this area’s classic rocky textures, of alluvial origin.

Verify Authenticity

In order to protect and verify the authenticity of the wines, starting with the 2017 vintage of Argentiera and the 2015 of Ventaglio, a seal of authentication is affixed to each bottle before shipping.
Cutting-edge nanotechnology makes each Prooftag™ seal absolutely unique and unreproducible. Each seal contains information specific to that individual bottle, preserved in a data-base accessible to the consumer.

A separate QR code and a numeric code, combined with the Bubble Tag™ , make each bottle literally unique. The coded information can be traced and verified by Smartphone by utilizing the I-Proof or Mobiltag apps, or by accessing the relevant section on the website.
